The role

This is a senior, delivery-focussed role, working across multiple projects and reporting to our Technical Director.

Our senior consultants ensure we deliver fantastic quality work. We apply an agile, service design approach to solving our clients’ problems, using technology to enable change. As a technical lead you will be key to making that happen.

Projects typically involve technical discovery, Alpha experiments and the development of working Betas. You'll work out of London, but be willing to commute to our Bristol office when required.

This is what we’d like you to do:

Have experience with a range of technologies

Our delivery work generally involves the web, however you’ll help decide which technologies we use to build and deliver the projects you work on, and so broader experience with mobile and connected technologies would be valuable. You’ll be able to draw on your experience – to see the bigger picture, help us navigate the pitfalls and set our teams and our clients up for success.

You’ll need experience of using public cloud services such as Amazon Web Services and Heroku and designing technical architectures that utilise on-demand infrastructure.

An understanding of how to use, design, build and test (TDD/BDD) APIs. And whilst we require that you have strong Javascript and NodeJS skills (applied to both the front and backend), experience of other languages would be a benefit.

Ideally, you’d also have experience of using React, CSS3/SASS and DevOps tooling such as Ansible or Chef.

Talk tech with non-techs

We run highly collaborative projects where we thrive by learning from our teammates. You should be confident rationalising your ideas and decisions – authoritatively communicating the benefits and trade-offs to product owners, designers, researchers and senior stakeholders.

Be the string to our balloon

We’re a design company, full of people determined to invent better things. You’ll help us use technology to bring ideas to life, and that means part of your job will be to keep our ideas grounded and feasible. You’ll need to know when to speak up, and be assertive enough to get your point across.

Have a creative technologist’s attitude

But you won’t just be cast as the voice of reason. Technology is an enabler and we’d like you to think creatively too, including trying out new technologies to help us understand what they can offer. You’ll enjoy prototyping, quickly connecting existing services to test ideas with potential users.

Make it “right enough”

You’ll own technical quality of the projects you work on. You’ll be astute enough to gauge what’s “right enough” for any given context and manage how the team delivers to that standard. You’ll ensure that we write code that others can understand, and work with our Technical Director to share project knowledge beyond the team.

Lead and inspire others

You’ll actively share your experience, learnings and ideas with the other devs at cxpartners, to help us stay sharp. But not just other developers - you’ll need to be adept at helping the rest of the company understand the opportunities of emerging technology and modern delivery practices and methodologies.

Mentor your amigos

You’ll be comfortable supporting others in the team, to bring out the best in them and improve their practice. You’ll be perceptive enough to delegate achievable tasks and give helpful critique.

Day-to-day, you’ll be conducting code reviews to ensure that the digital services and products we deliver meet our coding standards; standards that you’ll help to shape and maintain.

Help us be more agile

Our approach is pragmatic, not dogmatic, and is underpinned by agile principles such as collaboration, transparency and flexibility. Our project teams may be made up of designers, researchers, copywriters and developers, which means we embrace ideas from a range of methodologies and approaches such as Scrum, Kanban and DevOps.

We’re always evolving our approach and we’d like it if you could help us do that.

About Us

We’re a great place to work – you’ll love the environment, the people and the way the company looks after its staff. We are committed to training and run an extensive training programme which will support both your individual needs and our business ambitions. You’ll also get a great package with 25 days holiday, benefits including a smartphone, a cash-back healthcare scheme, a pension plan to which we’ll contribute, a MacBook and other kit as needed.
