Accessibility statement

Our accessibility statement describes what we’ve done to make our site accessible, and any problems we know about.

You can also find out what to do if you’re having trouble accessing anything.

This statement was prepared in March 2024.

This website is run by CXPartners – part of Sopra Steria Ltd.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 200% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate the website using a keyboard
  • listen to the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
  • navigate the website using speech recognition software

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Key standards and guidelines

We aim to achieve level AA compliance of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1.

There are a few other ways we’ve tried to make our site more accessible:

  • We’ve tried to make the text as simple as possible to understand.
  • We’ve used a typeface specifically designed for readers with low vision – Atkinson Hyperlegible.
  • We have audio versions of our case studies, and some blogs.

Accessibility issues we know about

  • In some cases the keyboard focus order doesn’t match the visual layout. This happens in places like the blog page where titles appear below the images in the design.
  • On our forms, we don’t show errors in a list above the form.
  • The text in the ‘People First’ banner on the homepage doesn’t respond to font size changes. That’s because: we want it to scale with the browser; we wanted to use real text; and the text is large size.
  • Videos don’t include a transcription. We are following GDS guidance and embedding YouTube’s video player. That embedded player doesn’t allow you to embed a transcription. But we do link out to YouTube’s site, where people can access a transcription (which, in most cases, is automated).
  • We can’t guarantee the accessibility of the Eventbrite pop-ups we use.

Supported browsers

We have tested our website to ensure that it works with the following browsers:

  • Firefox (Desktop v123)
  • Chrome (Desktop v122, iOS15, Android 120, Tablet Android 120)
  • Safari (Desktop v17.3, iOS15, Tablet iOS15)
  • Edge (Desktop 122)

How we’ve checked accessibility

Our site has been tested by Avalanche Digital (this site’s developer).

This testing included:

  • Using The A11Y Project’s checklist. According to The A11Y Project, “This checklist targets many, but not all level A and AA concerns. The issues this checklist prompts you to check for covers a wide range of disability conditions. There is no such thing as perfect accessibility or a site being 100% accessible.”
  • We used the accessibility-checker tools Lighthouse and WAVE, on desktop and mobile, for key page templates e.g. the blog page.
  • We tested key page templates with the ChromeVox screen reader.
