Increase the value of your research with Insight Bank

Over the years we’ve heard many stories about insights from user research failing to impact on product design and development decisions.

We've heard about valuable insights that are hard to find, buried in impenetrable reports or locked within organisational silos.

Also we've heard about huge inefficiencies where research was duplicated because no-one realised it had already been commissioned.

So we decided to do something about it.

I’m proud to announce that we've launched our first digital product called Insight Bank.

Introducing Insight Bank

Insight Bank is a web application that makes it easy to store and reuse what you learn from research.

It’s designed to help you to make better, evidence-based decisions based on user needs.

Let me give you a quick guided tour.

A quick guided tour of Insight Bank

The insights it contains are deliberately short making them easy to find, digest and remember. As they are uploaded they are tagged, making it easy for you and others to find them in future.

Each time new research is conducted it is converted into individual insights and added to the Insight Bank. Over time the resource grows into a central place for anyone in your organisation to find out what is known about your users (and where the knowledge gaps are).

You can also upload full research reports to Insight bank too so you can trace individual insights back to their source report.

What value does Insight Bank bring to its users?

Bristol City Council have been using Insight Bank to support their ongoing programmes of user research.

At Bristol City Council we see the insights we have gained from user research as a major asset. Many of our people now use Insight Bank to redesign services, often dispelling stereotypes and myths along the way and ultimately delivering things that people really do need (rather than what we think they need). We come back to it time and time again and each time it reminds us who is important to us. Tracy Dodds,
Digital Services Manager at Bristol City Council

This is awesome news.

It’s exactly how we hoped it would be used and I love the myth-busting aspect – that is something we hadn’t thought of but is a lovely unintended benefit of the tool.

Insight Bank helps to bridge the gap between doing research, and actually putting the insights to good use to improve digital products and services.

We’ve really focussed on trying to make a tool that simply stores all your insights from user research in one place in a format that makes them easy to find and act upon.
