Senior User Research Consultant Bristol
Main duties and responsibilities
This is a new, full-time, permanent role, based in our Bristol. You will be working in our Digital Government pod on projects for central and local government departments, for government agencies and other bodies (such as the UK Space Agency), and for public sector health organisations.
Our senior consultants ensure our teams deliver fantastic quality work to our clients. As a senior practitioner in a user-centred design business, you will be at the heart of everything we do.
You will work collaboratively in a cross-functional, agile team with other UX consultants, visual designers, technologists, project managers and clients to research and craft innovative design solutions that make a difference.
As a senior research consultant, you will lead the day-to-day running and delivery of projects as well as guide research programmes across the whole Digital Government team.
You will work with our digital government pod leadership to shape, and communicate clear outcome-led programmes of research and lead innovation of our research offer to the public sector.
You’ll ensure team members understand their roles and responsibilities, and you’ll mentor junior practitioners.
You will also have the opportunity to develop the research community of practice across cxpartners and lead the innovation of our research offer to the public sector.
We expect you to understand the fundamentals of the way a business like cxpartners works, and to understand our customers’ businesses too.
In particular, you will:
- Be experienced in planning and delivering research from Discovery through to post-Live continuous improvement.
- Be proficient in a range of research techniques covering behavioural, attitudinal and evaluative research.
- Be able to shape research programmes (both quantitative and qualitative) that solve our clients’ strategic and tactical challenges.
- Communicate research insight in a compelling way to designers, developers and stakeholders at all levels.
- Take ownership of, and lead projects for, your clients.
- Take responsibility for the quality of our delivery.
- Be practised at stakeholder engagement and good with clients.
- Be able to lead and be willing to coach staff.
- Be proactive in projecting cxpartners’ research value to our staff, our clients, their industries and the wider experience design community - you’ll be expected to regularly share your work with colleagues and contribute to our marketing program.
Your skills, qualities and experience:
You’ll have around five years’ work experience in a digital industry. Ideally you will have experience of working in an UX or creative agency or client-side, and of the public sector. You’ll be used to working within the GDS framework and to sharing the benefits of a user-lead research programme with stakeholders and with less experienced project team members.
You will have experience of working within a cross-disciplinary team.
You have detailed knowledge and practical experience of UX research methodology and practices. You will have experience with each stage of product/ service design development and delivery.
We are pragmatic, not dogmatic in our approach and very much outcome-driven. Often our work breaks new ground, and we innovate to achieve those outcomes. We’d like you to be the kind of person who is able to help us do that.
You’ll have great communication skills (verbal and written), the ability to listen, and to articulate complex ideas clearly. You’ll need a level of natural authority to help you lead your teams, and to ensure clients listen to you and people respond to you. You will have great emotional intelligence, and understand how to build strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues and clients.
We’d like you to be able to see the big picture and have a strong attention to detail - both are possible, we think!
Once travel restrictions are eased, you’ll be happy to travel to our other office from time-to-time, and to work on site with clients if and when that is needed. You’ll also be prepared to travel abroad.
