Visual design trainee Bristol
Job description
This is a new, full-time, Bristol-based position for a visual design trainee. We’re offering a three-month or six-month temporary contract, with the hope that this will become a permanent role at the end of the traineeship.
As a specialist visual designer, you’ll be working on innovative, creative and exciting projects that make a real difference to people’s lives. You’ll get to work alongside experienced visual designers, creative technologists and UX specialists to solve challenging design problems and produce refined solutions for user interfaces, websites, mobile apps and even offline media.
Who we’re looking for
You’ll probably have a relevant degree; if not, you’ll have equivalent practical experience. We’ll want to see a portfolio of your work, and some evidence of an ability to design beautiful, purposeful user interfaces for websites and/ or apps. Some previous work experience would also be a bonus.
We’ll want you to have a natural eye for composition, flair, tone, along with an understanding of the fundamentals of typography, especially in relation to its use in digital.
An understanding of frontend development and how to design for it would be a bonus (though you will not be required to produce any code). Animation or motion experience would also be a bonus.
You’ll need to have a passion for user-centered design methodologies. You’ll be creating meaningful design solutions that pair user needs with brand aspirations.
We’ll want you to:
1. Support the cxpartners design team through delivery of creative work for our clients and our internal projects. You’ll be working from an agreed visual direction in almost all cases. You’ll help to ensure visual design quality is maintained throughout the production workflow. We’ll be looking to see that you build strong relationships within the team, and that you grasp what is required, and deliver it efficiently and on time.
2. Where possible, you’ll get involved with the full project lifecycle, including kick-off meetings, workshops, initial sketches, concepting, design testing and research. You’ll work with our UX Consultants to tackle difficult user interface problems along with supporting our development team to see your design work through to implementation. We’ll provide you with opportunities to grow your skills, and experience the full range of cx’s activities, and we’ll be looking to see that you have the potential to progress to a permanent role in our visual design team.
3. Explain and rationalise the decisions that informed your designs, articulating the thought process that you went through and foreseeing likely issues. We’ll want you to be able to both accept and offer critique, and to be able to react to it in a positive and constructive way.
